WELCOME TO POWWOW ALPACAS
PowWow is based in the beautiful South-hams just a couple of miles away from Totnes in Devon. We have a small herd of huacayas, from quality breeding animals to pets. Our aim is to increase the herd with a breeding program to enhance genetics.

Alpaca is quickly becoming one of the world’s most renowned sustainable fibres. They produce immense ecological value, they graze without pulling plants out by the roots and nibble only the upper parts of grass, thus permitting immediate regeneration. This makes alpacas an amazing addition to any farm, particularly when farmers want to implement regenerative agriculture practices and diversify their farming operation. When alpacas are managed responsibly, they are considered to be one of the kindest animals to the planet with minimal negative environmental impact.

ABOUT POWWOW ALPACAS
Our Alpaca journey started in 2019 when we purchased three pregnant females. At the time we did not know where this adventure would take us but we soon found that owning Alpacas is somewhat addictive. The dynamic in the paddock changes each year with every newborn cria and changes to housing and grouping need to be considered. Having started our herd with pregnant females it was inevitable that breeding would become a passion of ours. It is difficult not to get caught chasing the finest quality fleeced studs for the next breeding season but we are lucky that the SouthWest has a good selection of quality animals to choose from. We now have two studs of our own which we will offer for their services for the first time. Have a look in the Stud services section for more information.
Whilst breeding plays a big part, I love the connection with animals. The silent communications and understanding with each other. Alpacas are great therapy animals, it has been proven that stroking animals can reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure and stress levels. Alpacas have a calming influence, people that come for an alpaca walk often say that they feel very clam when they leave. I therefore introduce Alpaca Mediations to my program and Yoga amongst alpacas.
We have now got a herd of fifteen, the beauty of owning a small herd, is that all animals get individual attention and are all known by their names.
Beyond their incredible fiber, alpacas produce immense ecological value. Alpacas graze without pulling plants out by the roots and nibble only the upper parts of grass, thus permitting immediate regeneration. This makes alpacas an amazing addition to any farm, particularly when farmers want to implement regenerative agriculture practices and diversify their farming operation. When alpacas are managed responsibly, they are considered to be one of the kindest animals to the planet with minimal negative environmental impact.
We will be entering a selection of halter and fleece shows and are looking forward to connecting with other alpaca lovers.
